How to Read an Acura Window Sticker: Learn to Decode Every Detail
If you have ever stood beside a shiny new Acura in the showroom and stared at the big sheet on the glass, you are not alone. That Acura window sticker is packed with codes, numbers, and fine print. It looks intimidating at first, but once you know how to read a car window sticker, it becomes one of the most useful tools in your research.
Let’s walk through it using a real example from Camco Acura: a 2026 Acura Integra Elite-A. By the end, you will be able to glance at any Acura sticker and understand exactly what you are looking at, what is included, what you are paying for, and how the vehicle is equipped.
- The Top Line: Year, Model, and the “Secret” Codes
Across the top of the sticker you will see:
- Year and model. In our example: 2026 INTEGRA ELITE-A
- Model code. For this example car: DE4H6TJ
- Exterior colour. Solar Reflection Silver with the colour code beside it (here: Z65)
- Interior colour and trim. Black with additional codes (here: 242 / 036)
This line tells you exactly which version of the vehicle you are looking at, right down to the trim and colour combination.
Acura engine and model codes: what do they mean?
On the sticker, “DE4H6TJ” is Acura’s internal model code rather than an engine code, but it works the same way. Each letter or number identifies details such as body style, drivetrain, transmission, and trim.
You will also see engine codes in brochures or spec sheets, for example L15 or K20 followed by more letters and numbers. While decoding every character takes a factory book, here is a simple way to think about Acura engine code meanings:
- The first letter (L, K, J, and so on) identifies the engine family.
- The numbers usually relate to engine size. For example, “20” often indicates around 2.0 litres.
- The extra letters can refer to technology such as turbocharging, hybrid systems, or tuning variations.
You do not need to memorize these codes. It is simply useful to know that if you are ever curious about a code on your Acura window sticker, your Camco Acura team can look it up and explain exactly what it represents.
- VIN: The Vehicle’s Fingerprint
Somewhere near the top you will find a string of 17 characters, the Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN. On our Integra it starts with 19UDE4H…
The VIN is your vehicle’s fingerprint. It encodes:
- Manufacturing country and brand
- Model and body style
- Engine and restraint systems
- Model year and factory
- Production sequence number
For most shoppers, the key thing to know is this: the VIN on the window sticker must match the VIN on the dashboard and paperwork. That tells you that you are looking at the exact car you will eventually drive home.
- Standard Equipment: What Is Included at No Extra Cost
On the left side of the sticker, you will see a big heading such as:
Standard Equipment at No Extra Cost
Under that, features are grouped by category. For our 2026 Integra Elite-A, some highlights include the following.
Exterior features
- 18 inch aluminum alloy wheels with P235/40R18 tires
- Rear decklid spoiler
- Jewel Eye LED headlights
- Blind Spot Information System (BSI)
- Cross Traffic Monitor
- 2 way power glass moonroof
- Front wheel mudguards
Interior features
- AcuraLink connectivity system
- Auto dual zone climate control
- Metal racing pedals
- 2 position driver memory settings
- Adaptive cruise control
- Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
- Rain sensing wipers
- Heated steering wheel and heated rear seats
Safety features
- Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Theft deterrent system
- LATCH anchors for child seats
Technical features
- Active Damper System for a smoother, more controlled ride
These are the features already built into the price of the vehicle. There is no additional cost and no guessing. When you are comparing different trims or different brands, this list is extremely helpful. It shows exactly what you get for your money.
- Options and Accessories: What Is Extra
Many Acura window stickers also include a section for options. This is where you will find factory packages, upgraded wheels, premium paint, or accessories such as spoilers and roof racks. These are optional items that:
- Are clearly listed by name
- Show an individual price beside each item
- Add up to a subtotal before you get to the final vehicle price
Sometimes dealer installed accessories, such as winter tire packages, body side mouldings, or wheel locks, appear on a separate addendum instead of the manufacturer’s window sticker. When you are learning how to read a car window sticker, remember this rule:
- The Acura sticker shows everything from the factory.
- Any additional dealer add ons should be presented separately and explained clearly.
At Camco Acura, our team walks you through both so you can see exactly what is factory installed and what is optional.
- Fuel Economy and EnerGuide Label: What Will It Cost to Run?
On Canadian Acuras, the large centre panel is the EnerGuide fuel consumption label from the Government of Canada.
On our example Integra Elite-A, you will see:
- 7.3 L/100 km combined
- 8.0 L/100 km city
- 6.3 L/100 km highway
These numbers are based on standardized lab testing. They let you compare one vehicle to another on a level playing field, even if your real-world driving is a little different.
You will also see an estimated annual fuel cost. In this case it is:
- $2,555 per year
- Based on 20,000 km of driving
- At a premium fuel price of $1.75 per litre
Keep in mind that this is an estimate. If you drive more highway than city, or fuel prices change, your costs will change as well. The fuel label is still a great way to compare a sport tuned Integra with a larger SUV or with a previous generation vehicle that you might be trading in.
The label also shows:
- A CO₂ emissions rating in grams per kilometre
- A smog rating on a 1 to 10 scale
Lower emissions and a better smog rating mean a cleaner running vehicle.
- Pricing Breakdown: MSRP, Freight and PDE, and Total
Near the bottom right of the Acura window sticker, you will find the numbers everyone looks for first.
- Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)
- For our Integra Elite-A example: $46,575.00
- Destination Charges (Includes Freight and PDE)
- Here: $2,595.00
- Total Vehicle Price
- The sum of the above: $49,170.00
Let’s break that down.
MSRP: MSRP is the base price of the vehicle in that specific trim. It includes all the standard equipment listed on the left and any factory options shown on the sticker. It does not include freight, PDE, taxes, or dealer installed accessories.
Freight and PDE: This line can be confusing, so it is worth understanding clearly.
- Freight covers the cost of getting your Acura from the assembly plant to the dealer.
- PDE (Pre Delivery Expense – also referred to in some places as PDI or Pre Delivery Inspection) includes the technician time and materials needed to ready your car for delivery. That includes unwrapping, fluid checks, road testing, software updates, and other preparation work.
On the sticker, these are combined into one destination charge. They are not a surprise add on. They are part of the official manufacturer pricing for every new Acura sold in Canada.
- Disclaimers and Fine Print: Why It Matters
Along the bottom of the sticker next to the MSRP section, you will find several paragraphs of fine print. These usually cover:
- A note that specifications, equipment, and prices can change without notice
- A statement that licence fees, taxes, and dealer installed accessories are not included in the MSRP
- Information about how fuel economy estimates are calculated
It may not be exciting reading, but it is there to protect both you and the manufacturer by clarifying exactly what is and is not covered on the sticker.
What is not on the manufacturer sticker
The Total Vehicle Price on the sticker is still not the final “drive away” price. You will also need to account for:
- Applicable taxes
- Licensing and registration fees
- Any dealer documentation fees
- Optional protection packages or accessories
At Camco Acura, we always provide a full written breakdown so you can see how we get from the window sticker total to your final purchase or lease figures.
- How to Use the Window Sticker When You Are Shopping
Now that you know how to read a car window sticker, here is how to make it work for you.
- Compare trims easily
Look at an Integra A-SPEC and an Elite-A side by side. Scan the standard equipment and options lines to see where the extra money goes: wheels, audio, driver assist technology, or interior upgrades. - Verify that you are getting the exact vehicle you want
Colour and interior codes ensure you are seeing the right combination. The model code and VIN confirm that the car you test drive is the same car you are buying. - Understand the pricing structure
Break down MSRP, Freight and PDE, and any dealer add ons. Ask your consultant to show you how the sticker total translates into your final quote. - Estimate operating costs
Use the fuel consumption numbers and annual fuel cost estimate to budget for long term ownership. Compare these figures with any other vehicles you are considering. - Ask questions
If you are not sure what a safety system does, or you are curious about an engine code or model code, bring the sticker inside. We will walk through it with you, line by line.
