AcuraWatch: Your Real-World Co-Pilot

Published on November 28 2018

Safety features in modern cars have become as vital as air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity. For many, a new car must include all the latest technologies but more often than not, a large portion of these features are only available in the highest trim vehicles. This forces consumers to spend more money and potentially end up with accessories they otherwise did not want.

At Acura, we know safety is paramount and this is why all of our vehicles are equipped with a battery of AcuraWatch safety attributes as standard. Here are some of the highlights included in all our Acura cars and utility vehicles:

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

This technology allows the driver to set a desired speed and maintain a set distance to a vehicle detected ahead. This is very helpful in light traffic situations.

Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)

This system relies on a combination of a radar and a forward-facing camera. It determines the distance and closing speed of detected objects that lie directly ahead. If there is a potential for a crash, it will alert the driver to take action. If the driver does not take action, the CMBS will begin light braking. If a frontal collision is unavoidable, the system will automatically apply strong braking.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

This state-of-the-art warning system will alert the driver to a potentially dangerous situation ahead. The FCW will use both visual and audible warning to alert the driver to a potential collision.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

Through a forward-facing camera, LKAS works proactively to keep the vehicle centered in a detected lane. If the driver starts to drift away from the middle of the lane, it will gently apply steering and help guide the car back to the center of the lane.

Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)

The Road Departure Mitigation system uses a camera to identify lane markers. When the system detects the vehicle is about to leave the lane, it warns the driver with visual and audible warnings.

If no action is taking by the driver, it can apply steering in an attempt to guide the vehicle back into its detected lane. Failing that, it will apply braking to help keep the vehicle from leaving the roadway completely.

The AcuraWatch collection of safety features exists on top of our recognized Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, full suite of airbags and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control.

At Acura, we take safety as seriously as you do.
