2017 Acura NSX: Increadible Performance in a Refined and Efficient Package

The lines between performance, comfort, and fuel-efficiency are more and more blurred by the day. And cars like the 2017 Acura NSX are proof.

The lines between performance, comfort, and fuel-efficiency are more and more blurred by the day. And cars like the 2017 Acura NSX are proof. It used to be that a supercar was not comfortable or efficient, but that didn’t matter because it was supremely powerful. That’s no longer the case.

The 2017 Acura NSX Is the Definition of Hybrid Supercar

The all-new Acura NSX is not like any other car on the market. First of all, it has four engines of which three are electric. That alone makes it unique, or at the very least in a very select group.

It also has plenty of driving modes which means that you can either drive around town quietly and comfortably, or wake up the neighbors when you go to work in the morning – something you’ll be more than happy to do in the 2017 Acura NSX because the suspension settings can be quite compliant.

And although it is not affordable by most standards, it achieves the performance levels of supercars costing twice or three times as much.

Let’s start at the heart of the new 2017 NSX. The first thing to know is that each axle is powered by a different motor. The rear wheels of the new NSX are linked to a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that delivers 500 horsepower. That’s the engine that will make the supercar sound that makes everyone turn around.

The front wheels are powered by two electric motors that each develop 36 horsepower. Then, there is a third electric engine which is located between the rear V6 and the 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

All of these engines combine for a total horsepower output of 573 and 476 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough to reach 100 km/h in well-under 4.0 seconds. But more importantly, the technology makes for one of the best-handling vehicles on the market as the front engines can modify the torque sent to the individual wheels to “push” the car through turns. This also makes this an all-wheel drive car.

Comfort or Performance? You Choose in the 2017 Acura NSX

Perhaps the greatest thing about the 2017 Acura NSX is how it can go from tearing up the track one day to cruising along comfortably on the highway the next. And that’s because there are four drive modes, including Quiet which is just as it sounds, or doesn’t sound.

And then there’s the fuel economy rating. Although not confirmed by Acura just yet, it should average around 12 liters per 100 kilometers. Not bad for a supercar.
