2015 Acura ILX – Three engines, available Hybrid model, great features

''The 2015 Acura ILX is the automaker’s entry-level vehicle to the lineup, and has a starting price of $27,990 MSRP.''

Based on the Honda Civic sedan, the 2015 Acura ILX is a relatively affordable, stylish, light and nimble compact luxury sedan with lots of great features, good maneuverability, and five trim levels from which to choose from, including Acura’s first hybrid model.

The 2015 Acura ILX is the automaker’s entry-level vehicle to the lineup, and has a starting price of $27,990 MSRP. Acura’s sharp-looking sedan, which comes in the base ILX, Premium, Tech, Dynamic and Hybrid models, should offer something for everyone.

For example, buyers can choose between three different engines. The first is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder for solid and efficient performance, generating 150 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired to an automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and has a fuel economy rating of 9.7/6.7 litres per 100 kilometres (city/highway).

The second is a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine equipped with the ILX Dynamic trim, and produces 201 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. This version is mated to a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. Fuel economy ratings for the 2.4-litre are 10.8 and 7.4 L/100km when driving in the city and on the highway respectively.

Finally, the third engine, the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder with an integrated electric motor, is the perfect option if fuel efficiency is a priority. Found under the hood of the ILX Hybrid model, buyers can expect a total output of 111 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque between 1,000-3,500 rpm. The 1.5-litre is coupled to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters. Eco Assist and an Econ mode button are also offered on this trim, and if fuel-efficiency is a concern, you may be pleased with the combined 6.1 L/100km (city/highway) rating from the ILX Hybrid.

In terms of safety, the 2015 Acura ILX is equipped with stability and traction control, and a multi-angle rearview camera, and has garnered the top 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Other elements included with the new ILX sedan are dual-zone climate control with an air-filtration system, SMS text function, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. A premium sound system with 7 speakers and USB connector is also included.

To enjoy some of the finer features offered on this vehicle, buyers will have to opt for the Premium or Technology package. With the Premium package, owners get heated front and leather-trimmed seats, satellite radio, and a power driver’s seat. The Technology package adds on a navigation system with voice recognition, a more upgraded audio system that includes media storage and DVD-Audio, among others, and a HomeLink remote system.

As for comfort and space, when inside the vehicle the seats should feel supportive rather than hard or stiff when leaning against them. As for interior roominess, the sedan’s interior is spacious for this type of vehicle, and provides a decent amount of room for backseat passengers.

With a relatively affordable base price, a choice of three engines which include Acura’s first hybrid model, top crash test safety scores, and lots of features, the 2015 Acura ILX is certainly a worthy consideration for those in need of a compact luxury car.
